The Vadakkumnathan Temple being one of the erstwhile temples in Kerala was built in the traditional style with many decorative art pieces and murals. The world renowned Pooram Festival is celebrated at this venue each year during April and May. At the Pooram, the main highlight is the fireworks. Only Hindu people are allowed to enter the temple. (Open: 03:00 – 10:30 am & 05:00 – 08:30 pm)

When one enters the western Gopuram, on the left side there is the Kuttambalam which is a prominent feature of the temple. Kuttu, the traditional and ancient form of art is staged here which is very famous. The opening time of the Vadakkumnathan Temple is 3:00 am and after the morning rites, it closes at 10:30 am. In the evening it opens up again and after Trippuka, the last rite of the day, it closes at 8:30 am.

The Pooram festival, which is celebrated in April-May, is held at this venue. At this festival, the fireworks are a delight. Non-Hindu people are not allowed to enter the temple. It has also been declared a national monument by the Union Government under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.
