Location Malappuram has a rich and an eventful history. It had the Zamorin’s military head quarters in ancient times. The place is nationally renowned for the Moppila revolution. Malappuram also known as Eranadu, is 50 Kms south east of Kozhikkode. It is bordered with Western Ghats on the east, Arabian Sea on the west and the districts of Thrissur, Kozhikkode and Palakkad. It has three great rivers namely, Chaliyar, Kadalundi and Bharathapuzha flowing through it.

Tourist Places In Malappuram Kottakkal :Malappuram is enriched with many number of tourist spots. Kottakkal, which is 12 Kms south west of Malappuram, is the home for the renowned Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Shala, which is a giant in Ayurveda.

Nilambur :Nilambur, which is the home for Kerala’s oldest tribe Cholanaickans is also famous for its teak plantations.

Thali Temple :Malappuram has also got pilgrim centres like Thali temple. It is located 3 Kms west of Angadipuram, which is on the way to Perinthalmanna from Malappuram.

The Jamaat Mosque :One of the important pilgrim centres of the Muslims. Here the festival that last for four days is very famous. The mausoleum next to the mosque is the place where great Malappuram shaheeds are rest in peace.

Tanur :This is the coastal fishing town. Portuguese were the first who settled in the town. The keraladeshapuram temple with lord Vishnu as deity is one of the oldest temples of Tanur.

Angadippuram :This is an important pilgrim centre for both Hindus and Muslims. Thirumandhankunnu dedicated to Goddess Durga and the Puthanangadi Mosque, give this place a divine atmosphere.

Tourist Attractions In And Around Malappuram Kondotti :Kondotti is another major pilgrimage location in Malappuram. It is 18 Kms west of Manjeri. Pazhayangadi Mosque of this place is 500 years old and it celebrates the famous Valia Nercha festival in the month of February. People from distant places come to the mosque during that time.

Vallikunnu Beach :A beach resort set in the middle of a coconut grove is the main attraction here.This beach resort is lined with coconut tress all around it. A stay in this beach resort makes you feel like you are living really close with the nature. Bird watchers can travel a few kilometres from there to the Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary.

Padinharekara Beach : Go to this beach resort and enjoy the breathtaking nature’s beauty. You can watch the Tirur Puzha , the Bharatha Puzha and the Arabian sea.

Tirunavai :This historically famous place is on the banks of the Bharathapuzha. It is located 8 Kms south of Tirur. The great Mamamkam festival was held on this place. During the mid 1750’s this festival was held once in 12 years. History tells that it’s the great Cheraman Perumal, who started this festival.

Thirumandhamkunnu temple :The people of Thirumandhamkunnu believe that the place has a strong influence of goddess Durga. This prominent pilgrim centre attract huge crowd every year during the months of March and April. The native celebrates Poornam festival with great pomp every year.

Tirur : This is the birthplace of great scholar Thunchath Ezhuthachan. It’s a belief that children who start their education by writing on the sands take from Thunchan Parambu can show miracles. Isn’t it cool?

Nedumkayam :With thick forests and picturesque spots, Nedumkayam is a tourist spot that has to be exploited. Any one visiting Nedumkayam will get an opportunity to closely watch the herds of deer and elephant groups. The elephant training camps here attracts a lot of tourists. A journey through the deep forest shows you the fire beauty of the forest.

How To Reach There Malappuram can be reached by rail with Kozhikkode being the nearest major rail head. The Air port is 36 Kms away. A good network of roads leads you to the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu.
