Alleppey also known as Alappuzha is a paradise on earth. It is one of the most exotic locations with stretch of water bodies all crisscrossed across it. It was founded by Keshawadasan, Divan of Travanacore in 1762. The vast number of lakes,rivers,lagoons make it a view similar to that of Venice and is also known as the Venice of the east. Alleppey is generously gifted with an abundance of natural beauty and the easy availability of natural resources helps the nurturing of various plants and many animals. It also has many rare birds and loads of rare species can be seen during the migrating season. Places to Visit in Alleppey Alappuzha Beach :

It is one of the most liked picnic spots in Alleppey. A 137 year old pier extends into the sea here. The Vijaya beach park is situated nearby and offers various entertainment facilities. The lighthouse present in the sea is a beacon to sea farers and also fascinates tourists

Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple :

Ambalapuzha Sri Krishna Temple is one among the famous Krishna Temples in Kerala. The ‘palpayasam’ made here for the daily offering to the deity is very popular among visitors. The deity worshipped here is Sri Krishna and the “pallipana” is performed by “velans”(sorcerers) in honour of the Gods once every 12 years.

Kuttanad : (The rice bowl of Kerala )It is an agricultural place and the vast lands are covered by paddy fields. Crops like banana, cassava, and yam are also grown here. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is the only area where farming is done 1.5 to 2 metres below sea level. Another rarity is the system of inland waterways which flow above the land and can be seen during Alleppey tourism.

Pathira Manal :Paithra manal is a 10 acre island and many rare varieties of migratory birds from different parts of the world pay a visit here. This island lies between Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom and can only be accessed by boat. Rare species of birds can be seen here during the migratory season.

Champakulam Church :St.Mary’s church is one of the oldest churches in Kerela. It was the 7th church established by St.Thomas. Every year on the 3rd Sunday of October an annual fest is held and is attended by a large number of Christians and tourists during Alleppey travel.

Arthunkal : The St. Sebastian's Church is situated here is an important Christian pilgrim centre. Annual festival: Arthunkal Perunnal - the feast of the patron saint is celebrated in January and it attracts a huge number of devotees every year.

Sea View Park : The park as the name suggests has a wonderful view of the sea. It also has swimming pool facilities and boating services.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple : This temple is situated near Harippad and is dedicated to the serpent God Nagaraja. The temple is under the patronage of a Brahman family and is presided over by a priestess. This shrine is known internationally and many pilgrims travel from far off places to visit this temple.

Chettikulangara Bhagwathy Temple : The Bhadrakali deity is the chief deity of this temple. The deity is believed to have tremendous power and also has the power to ease people’s problems. During the months of Bharani (February to March) the temple is full of devotees and the chanting of prayers can be heard.

Punappra : Punappra is a village not far from Alleppey tourism. It is known because of the heroic stories related to the struggle between the communists and Travancore State Police.

How To Reach There The airport is at Kochi, 66 kms away. The place is well connected to Kochi, by a network of trains. It is also connected to all the towns in southern India by a proper system of roads. Bus services are also available in Alleppey Travel.
